| Background Located in the town of Siem Reap province, Siem Reap campus has performed its academic mission under the recognition of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports with sub-Decree no. 58 ANK-PK dated on 13 June 2002. Its former name was the Faculty of Management and Law (FML) but was changed to Build Bright University on the same date of its recognition for the sake of higher education and vocational training services to residents of the province and its nearby populace in Udar Mean Chey, Preah Vihear, and Kampong Thom. As it is the second largest of the nine campuses of Build Bright University (BBU), the biggest university amongst others in the province, the campus offers various skills through six faculties: Faculties of Business Management, Tourism and Hospitality, Education and Languages, Information of Technology, Law and Engineering on the spacious compound of approximately 10, 000 m2 with four well equipped buildings At the distance of 314 kilometers on the Northwest of Phnom Penh stands Siem Reap, the province which is bordered to Udar Mean Chey on the North, Preah Vihear on the Northeast, Kampong Thum on the Southeast, Tonle Sap on the South, Battambang on the Southwest and Banteay Mean Chey on the Northwest. Siem Reap had been an ancient capital of Angkorian state since the beginning of the 9th century. The state was prosperous with sophisticated irrigation system that made use of the tidal range of Tonle Sap water. As such, Siem Reap symbolizes history and culture of Khmer until today. After the Paris Peace Accord when Cambodia achieved stability, foreign Tourists gradually come to visit Siem Reap. In the same year, the Tourism Industry in Siem Reap has provided work to many people in term of accommodation, restaurants, travel agencies, transportation companies, souvenir shops and the like. Tourism in Siem Reap is estimated to have generate employment to about 55, 000. Siem Reap is the best for its distinct strengths as compared to other parts of Cambodia with three indicators: 18 First, the monuments of Angkor are the most important cultural inheritance of the country and the site of the world heritage. Second, the district has good access in air, land and water surface. Third, for the mentioned above, the district has received favor policy support from the Cambodian government. For instance, APSARA Authority is a strong force of the government in protecting the monuments of Angkor and providing technical support for the use of the urban and the regional development. Seeing that Siem Reap is far from Phnom Penh where most universities are situated, realizing that Siem Reap is a tourist destination where potential learners are eager to pursue their education, perceiving that Siem Reap is good for tourism research, and especially attempting to share responsibility in the government in building human capacity in the province, Build Bright University, Siem Reap Campus was established. Since 2002, the campus has been playing its crucial roles for Siem Reap residents with two main reasons: saving cost on transportation and accommodation and accessibility to university for time-shortage learners, local women and working students.. AdministratorsThe campus consists of 39 staffs and 90 academic staffs under a strong and inspiring management team. It's located along the road from Phsar Krom to Wat Chork with office phone and fax (+855) 63 963 300 and e-mail: info@bbu.edu.kh, www.bbu.edu.kh. Within the managerial chart there are 11 offices, Information Service Office, Student Service Office, Academic Office, Administrative Office, Accounting and Financial Office, Registration Office, Quality Assurance Office, Research and Development and Library Office, Foundation Year Office, Vice Dean Office, and Vocational Training Office, performing their administrative and academic services. Education FocusThe focus is the societal development which means participation of populace for learning and the development of knowledge and skills regardless of gender and ethnic origin. Therefore, Siem Reap was chosen to position a branch in order to help students save money and time, and also provide female students the opportunity for further study. Siem Reap campus provides better educational quality in Vocational Training, Associate, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degree, from which several vital skills are offered through the faculties of Business Management, Education & Languages, Information Technology & Engineering, and Law. Apart from the faculties mentioned as Siem Reap is the tourist destination, the university run an intensified program in Tourism with market driven curriculum. This program offers two majors: Tourism Management and Hospitality Management in all levels: Associate, Bachelor, Master, Ph.D. EnrollmentsSo far, BBU Siem Reap has been getting good number of students, It has already taken five promotion and by mid January, 2007, the campus would have gotten 4,187 students. To sustain this satisfactory enrollment trend, the management takes care of the needs of the students by providing first class facilities, qualified and dedicated lecturers, and supportive and professional managers. |
